The initiative behind my creative business, NYAC,  is a love for stationery, most especially journals, planners, markers, notebooks, paper clips … I love the aesthetics of eye-catching, designed stationery.  Doesn’t writing with a well-designed pen make you write better? Who am I kidding? It’s the quality of the paper that allows your work to stand out from others!  Right? Regardless of what it is, I LOVE IT!  The floral pen that matches the set of letter paper and envelopes, gets me every time.

Envy of great quality stationery is something that occurs within me.  I find it hard to spend $30 on a notebook. That would be a difficult expense to absorb.  To my advantage, there are discount stores that sell brand name, designer stationery at a reduced price.  At this point, I am an amateur stationery collector. I am reluctant to dish out $70 for a fountain pen or the cost of a Blackwing Pearl Slate notebook but the time has come to where I may have convinced myself that my writings deserve a home worthy of premium quality.

Fashionable stationery allows you to express your personality in a business atmosphere.  Designer office supplies may not lend themselves to the best quality but it damn sure is aesthetically appealing.  I mean… have you seen those rose colored staplers? To die for! The world of stationery has evolved from plain, spiral notebooks to personalized embellished paper gods.

My collection has evolved over time.  When I was younger I preferred school supply shopping over clothes shopping.  My favorite brand was Lisa Frank. Her vivid, bold colors and unique animal designs stood out from the rest.  As I gradually outgrew Lisa Frank, I would begin to appreciate good quality made notebooks. The durability became a requirement.  These notebooks would last through a semester of torment. Shoved in a backpack or thrown in the back seat of my car, the durability was put to the test.  My collection of journals and calendar books began to grow as I looked for excuses to have multiple. I’ve learned the key to that is purchase one dated and the rest undated.  You’re welcome.

Over a period of time, my love for stationery subsided and adulting became a priority. I have never been employed with a desk job and life with a baby consumed my day.  However, I managed to fill a baby book with detailed events as well as a journal I dedicated to her. Eventually, she would begin grade school and my obsession would begin again only this time it was her opinion that ruled.  Sigh. Our taste is at different ends of the spectrum. Fast forward some years and I realize I no longer need an excuse to collect pretty paper. My daughter is 16, I am single and the love of stationery isn’t only an interest of mine but others across platforms are sharing their keen liking.

I never imagined the day that it would be ok for me to not have a purpose for a notebook.  Thanks to the internet, I can share my obsession without feeling ashamed. I can’t pinpoint when exactly it happened but stationery designers have stepped up their game and the competition is fierce.  This explosion of stationery enthusiasts delights my once guilty pleasure and ignites my passion even more.

If you share the love of stationery, you have found yourself in the right place!  I invite you to join as I begin investing and reviewing quality stationery. Share your favorites in the comments or any suggestions you may have for me to try.

Thank you ~ Sincerely,

Candace
